How to play Futoshiki
A small Latin square with arrows that point the way.
The rules
- Fill the grid with 1 up to the grid size, once in every row and column.
- The < and > signs between squares must be true. The sign always points at the smaller number.
A quick example
Anything smaller than 2 must be 1.
Tips
- A square with a sign pointing at it can't be the largest number; one pointing away can't be 1.
- Chains like a < b < c force the smallest square to be low and the largest to be high.
- Combine signs with the once-per-row rule to rule out candidates quickly.
Most puzzles take 3 to 10 minutes.
