How to play Mathdoku
A grid of little sums. Every cage is a mini arithmetic puzzle.
The rules
- Fill the grid with 1 up to the grid size, once per row and once per column.
- Each outlined cage shows a target and a sign: + − × or ÷.
- The digits in a cage must make the target using that sign. For − and ÷, take the bigger number first.
- A cage with no sign is a single square: just write the number in.
A quick example
On a 4×4 grid, 6× must be 2 and 3, and 3− must be 1 and 4.
Tips
- Fill single-square cages first; they're free digits.
- Big products and small quotients have very few options. Work them out early.
- A digit can repeat inside a cage as long as the repeats aren't in the same row or column.
- Once a row has three digits placed, the fourth is whatever's missing.
Most puzzles take 5 to 15 minutes.
