How to play Mines
The classic mine-clearing puzzle, rebuilt so it never makes you guess.
The rules
- A number shows how many mines touch that square, including diagonally.
- Open every square that isn't a mine to clear the board.
- Flag squares you're sure are mines. Opening a mine costs one of your three lives.
A quick example
Every 1 around the middle touches only one hidden square, so that square must be the mine.
Tips
- A 1 with only one hidden neighbour: that neighbour is a mine. Flag it.
- Once a number has all its mines flagged, every other square around it is safe to open.
- Compare neighbouring numbers. A 1 next to a 2 often tells you exactly where the second mine sits.
- Corners and edges have fewer neighbours, so their numbers are easier to read.
Most puzzles take 3 to 10 minutes.
